A 29-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly exposing himself to a mother and her child, and then running onto a freeway when police responded.

Bradley T. Vires is booked at the Clark County Jail on suspicion of indecent exposure, disorderly conduct and obstructing a law enforcement officer. Online records indicate Vires’ case is pending in Clark County District Court.

A complaint says Vires is transient.

Officers were dispatched at 5:07 p.m. to a parking lot at 516 S.E. Chkalov Drive for a report of a sex crime in progress.

The victim told police she and her 5-year-old son witnessed a man masturbating in the parking lot, Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said in an email.

Officers arrived and spotted Vires, who matched the description of the suspect provided by the woman, Kapp said. They tried to talk to Vires, but he started running north through the lot. Police pursued him on foot.

“Several verbal commands to stop running were given yet the male continued through the parking lot, climbed a fence and ran onto (Interstate 205),” Kapp said.

Vires ran back and forth on the freeway, prompting drivers to swerve and slow down to avoid hitting him, Kapp said.

Washington State Patrol troopers arrived and took Vires into custody in the center median of the freeway.
