Weather Eye: Mild, sunny weather returns, at least till weekend

We are well into our nice stretch of dry and mild weather. We finally resumed highs in the 60s Monday across the county. We may see some morning clouds today with afternoon clearing, so not a complete sunny day. That’s how things looked Monday afternoon as I write this. Maybe we get fewer clouds.

Either way we are back to full sunshine and light easterly winds Wednesday and Thursday when highs get to 70 degrees plus or minus, depending on your location. I think we log in our first 70-degree reading of the year. Been waiting for that.

The dry weather should last to Saturday, however forecast models bring a small chance of showers, then back to dry weather Sunday and Monday. Of course, that is a way out so we’ll look at it on Thursday. We could remain dry. Fingers crossed.

With the sun shining it makes staying at home easier. It will be warm enough to stain the deck or fence or even paint the house. Cut the grass and wash the car will all fulfill some of your free time unless you are one of those who is still working outside the home.

With schools closed the remainder of the school year, I know the sunny warm days will be a challenge keeping youngsters concentrating on their electronic learning. We do the best we can.

Sunday was the anniversary of the Vancouver tornado that occurred on April 5, 1972. It killed six people and did millions in damage. I remember that day well. I was driving southbound over the Interstate 5 Bridge. It was dark as night with heavy rain and hail.

The tornado developed out of a squall line that followed the cold that moved through in the early morning hours.

April is a prime month for cold core funnel clouds and brief tornados. At least we do not have any active weather heading our way any time soon.

Enjoy the sunshine as you can and we will chat on a warm sunny day Thursday.
