WASHOUGAL — Following the closure of its schools, Washougal School District decided to start delivering meals to local families. “To serve meals for our families in need during this school closure time, we have had to retool how we operated and fast,” Kris Grindy, WSD business manager, said in a news release. Starting on March 16, 1,218 lunch bags, which contain two meals, were distributed the first week. The second week saw an increase.
Meal bags are available 10 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday through April 24. While families are encouraged to pick up meals, those who are unable to get to the schools can request meal delivery. “No child should ever have to say that they do not have anything to eat,” said Grindy.
To request delivery of meals, complete an online request form at www.washougal.k12.wa.us or call 360-954-3000. Additional partnerships are being organized the WSD Family Resource Coordination team. Weekend backpacks filled with vital food are available to registered families at Hathaway Elementary School, Hamllik Park and Rockwood Terrace on Fridays.
