OLYMPIA — Washington Gov. Jay Inslee on Thursday extended orders to keep non-essential businesses closed and most of the state’s more than 7 million residents home through May 4, saying social distancing measures must remain in place an additional month to minimize the spread of the coronavirus.
In recent days, Inslee had been signaling that his initial stay-at-home orders from March 23 — which were set to expire next week — would be extended. The new proclamation, announced during a news conference, extends the original order from two weeks to six weeks. Under previous actions taken by Inslee in response to the coronavirus outbreak, all bars, dine-in restaurants, entertainment and recreation facilities have been closed even longer, since March 17.
In normal times, Vancouver wholesaler SteBo’s Food Service exclusively sells bulk food for delivery to restaurants and stores. But like so many other businesses in the coronavirus era, the company has had to adapt to changing circumstances.
Last week, SteBo’s began opening its warehouse at 3800 N.E. 68th St. to the public for limited periods each day, offering cash-only sales for families and individuals who have had trouble finding groceries elsewhere.

Medics, police and firefighters responded at 11:22 a.m. to 17317 S.E. Evergreen Highway for a report of a major incident involving a train. The scene of the crash was closer to 17301 S.E. Evergreen Highway, where a private drive intersects train tracks.
A fire truck responding to a medical call Monday on an unpaved road in north Clark County toppled over into a small creek, likely putting the emergency vehicle permanently out of commission.
Clark County Fire District 10 crews were dispatched about 8:20 a.m. to the 6200 block of Northeast 405th Street, northeast of La Center, for a report of a person having a fainting episode due to abnormal breathing.
