Will Campbell was hired as an assistant metro editor at The Columbian. The son of publisher Scott Campbell, he will be responsible for monitoring and covering breaking news, editing copy and publishing stories online, in addition to supervising and coaching reporters. He graduated from the University of Oregon in 2018, where he worked on the student newspaper, The Daily Emerald, and then worked as a crime and public safety reporter at The Spokesman-Review in Spokane. “I read a lot of books, but newspapers are my life,” Campbell said, adding that sailing and soccer are his hobbies. Two new members recently were appointed to the Building Industry Association of Clark County’s board of directors. Caleb Blanton was appointed as builder director. He is a quality assurance manager at New Tradition Homes and has worked in the home building and construction industry for more than 20 years. Albert Schlotfeldt was appointed as state director. He is the owner and attorney at The Schlotfeldt Law Firm, which provides individual, corporate and institutional clients with services in construction, real estate and business litigation.
Local retired pediatric dentist Dr. Remigius Eussen was among seven honorees in the state recognized by Molina Healthcare for its 11th annual Community Champion Awards. Eussen practiced in Vancouver for 17 years and is passionate about expanding access to oral health and serving low-income populations. In the early 2000s, he helped establish the ABCD (Access to Baby and Child Dentistry) program in Clark County, according to Molina Healthcare spokeswoman Justine dela Rosa. He also “voluntarily offers his dental expertise and services to multiple organizations, including SmileMobile and various Head Start programs throughout Southwest Washington.” Award winners receive a $3,000 grant to donate back to a nonprofit; Eussen is giving his grant to the Free Clinic of Southwest Washington.
Three deputies from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit were recognized by the Washington State Parks Boating Program at its annual conference recently held in Vancouver. Clark County deputies Brett Anderson, Scott Gilberti and Shaun Robertson received a Recreational Boating Safety Education Merit Award for “increasing awareness and access to boating and boating safety, and especially for increasing recreational boaters’ use of personal flotation devices.” The team worked to build 10 life-jacket loaner stations at various boat launches in Clark County.
