Many years ago, the state of Washington adopted a $30 fee for car license plates. Since then, legislators have continued to add more fees to our car licenses. My last renewal for my motorcycle license was $145, and that included a tonnage fee for the motorcycle, a two-wheel vehicle. Where does all this money go?
Does anyone know what the Washington state tax is on a gallon of gasoline? I asked a service station attendant and his response was that it was an excise tax and it was none of my business to know.
The Washington state tax on a gallon of gas is the second highest in the nation. There is only one state in the U.S. that has a higher gas tax than the state of Washington. Where does all this money go?
That money certainly doesn’t go to increase the mass transit in Southwest Washington. That money certainly doesn’t pay for a solution for making it easier to get across the Columbia River.
It’s time to make the legislators accountable and support Tim Eyman’s Initiative 976.
