Water features to close during colder weather

The Columbian
Published: September 28, 2019, 6:00am

The Columbia River water feature at Vancouver Waterfront Park, along with the two water features in Esther Short Park, will close for more than seven months.

All three water features will close at 8 p.m. Monday. Vancouver Parks and Recreation staff will begin winterizing the features Tuesday.

Heavy rain, leaves, tree needles and other debris that comes with fall and winter weather can overwork and damage the internal workings of water features.

Seasonal use also helps Vancouver keep the features running for years to come.

The architectural portion of the Columbia River water feature will remain open to the public during the closure.

Both the Columbia River and Esther Short Park water features will be turned on again in May 2020. Exact dates will be announced before the water is turned on.
