Nick Nissen’s 5-yard touchdown run and Manning Smith’s extra point at the beginning of the second quarter was all the scoring Stevenson would need against the visiting Knights of Irrigon, Ore.
Stevenson threatened again late in the quarter, scoring two touchdowns on back to back plays, but penalties negated both scores. A 15-play, 60 yards drive ended with a botched snap on a 27-yard field goal attempt with a minute left in the half for the Bulldogs, settling for a 7-0 halftime lead. Both teams combined for 17 penalties in the game.
Garrett Mathany led Stevenson’s defense with three interceptions, one on a two-point conversion attempt and Carter Bennett had 80 yards and a touchdown to lead Stevenson’s rushing attack, which outgained Irrigon 237-87 on the ground.
Stevenson (1-3) hosts Seton Catholic next Friday.
