Esther Short — The Clark County Volunteer Lawyers Program helps people who can’t afford an attorney navigate the court system, but one night a year, the lawyers turn against each other and face off in the Battle of the Lawyer Bands. Warball won the fifth annual fundraiser for the program. It was the band’s second consecutive win. The competition is open to bands with at least one attorney as a member. They compete to win a guitar trophy. The winning score is a combination of dollars raised and a technical and performance score assessed by guest judges. This year, the event brought in $16,758 in total: Warball earned $7,358, Glitter and Grits brought in $3,966 and The Breaks raised $3,225. The event also had raffle prizes to bring in more donations. The program helps nearly 1,000 people every year, and has more than 100 attorneys who volunteer. In 2018, the program served more than 900 unique clients with more than 1,300 visits.
