A 14-year-old boy was injured Friday when he rode into traffic on Northeast Hazel Dell Avenue and was struck by a Ford F250 pickup, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash was reported at 2:42 p.m. in the 7000 block of Northeast Hazel Dell Avenue, just south of Northeast Anderson Street. The boy was transported to a hospital with traumatic injuries. The boy remained in the hospital Friday night with an unknown extent of injury, the sheriff’s department said.

A statement from the sheriff’s office said that an investigation determined that the boy had been riding on the sidewalk on the west side of the roadway and rode directly and suddenly into the path of the southbound truck. The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet, the department said.

The pickup’s driver remained on scene and cooperated with sheriff’s office traffic detectives investigating the crash, according to the department. It said no charges have been filed.

Deputies shut down the southbound lanes of Hazel Dell Avenue, which caused a delay for parents picking up kids at nearby Hazel Dell Elementary School.
