A 68-year-old Vancouver man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Saturday after he allegedly drove the wrong way on a Portland freeway and caused a nearly head-on collision.
Gerald R. Sullivan was criminally cited for driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving, according to a Portland Police Bureau news release.
Portland Central Precinct officers were dispatched at 12:49 a.m. Saturday to a report of a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 405. Officers learned as they were responding that the vehicle crashed into another vehicle, police said.
The officers came upon the crash on northbound I-405 at Southwest Fourth Avenue. Sullivan was reportedly still inside his Honda sedan. The driver of the other vehicle, a Toyota SUV, suffered minor injuries, police said.
