The Washington Department of Labor & Industries is reviewing 2,266 public comments regarding proposed changes to the state’s overtime rules. During meetings that L&I held about the issue, 625 people attended and more than 180 people testified.

Among the proposed changes, the biggest would shift the minimum salary threshold at which a worker is exempt from overtime. The new threshold would be equivalent to 2.5 times Washington’s minimum wage.

The agency’s staff is preparing responses to the comments, according to a news release, and they will be included in a report to its leadership. The comment period ended Sept. 20.

A decision is expected in early December, according to the news release. The rules have not been changed since 1976.
