Clark County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a hit-and-run in which a woman suffered serious leg injuries early Monday in West Hazel Dell.

Deputies were dispatched at 7:11 a.m. to Northwest Lakeshore Avenue, north of Northwest 78th Street. Soon after, fire and medical crews responded to a report of a traumatic injury.

The victim was located in a ditch on the side of the road and taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, according to Clark County sheriff’s Sgt. Alex Schoening. He did not immediately identify the woman.

Evidence collected at the scene, including a right rear-view mirror, indicates the woman was struck by a vehicle, Schoening said. She was likely walking north on the side of the road and struck from behind.

“We’re currently putting together the type of vehicle that was involved,” Schoening said.

A few hours earlier, deputies responded to the same area for a welfare check but were unable to locate anyone, Schoening said. He said deputies are working under the assumption the calls are related.
