Bennington — The Community Military Appreciation Committee, with grants from Walmart and from 100 Men Clark County, purchased and assembled 200 back-to-school kits for Clark County’s approximately 100 military families with a parent deployed or scheduled for deployment prior to the current school year starting. Sen. Lynda Wilson, R-Vancouver, Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle, Washougal City Councilor Ray Kutch, Clark County Councilor Gary Medvigy and volunteers from the committee and Walmart assembled the kits at Walmart on 192nd Avenue in Vancouver. The families will be provided with backpacks that include pencils, pens, markers, notebooks, paper, crayons and water bottles. The school supplies were purchased with an $11,500 grant from 100 Men Clark County. Walmart issued a $1,000 grant to help fill the backpacks.
