How Clark County college football players fared, Sept. 7

By Micah Rice, Columbian Sports Editor
Published: September 8, 2019, 6:50pm

Heading into the season, a big question surrounding the Central Washington football team was who would start at quarterback.

The answer came Saturday. Redshirt freshman Canon Racanelli, who led Hockinson to the 2A state title in 2017, got the call to replace the graduated Reilly Hennessey (Camas HS).

For debuts, it wasn’t a bad one. Racanelli threw for two touchdowns and no interceptions as Division-II Central Washington fell just short of upsetting FCS Idaho, 41-31. Racanelli completed 13 of 31 passes for 146 yards.

“Canon (Racanelli) did a heck of a job tonight,” Coach Chris Fisk told Wildcatsports.com. “You can’t pick a harder scenario than your first start being against a Big Sky school. He was poised and he’ll learn from this in order to get better.”

Racanelli wasn’t the only player from Clark County to make an impact for Central Washington on Saturday. Starting linebacker Max Randle (Battle Ground HS) had 13 tackles, including nine solo tackles and one sack. Nose tackle Angel Terry (Hudson’s Bay HS) and defensive end Isaiah Carbajal (Mountain View HS) also started for the Wildcats defense.

On offense, Drake Owen (Camas HS) started at wide receiver. He had one catch for 32 yards.

As always, email updates to Sports Editor Micah Rice at micah.rice@columbian.com. I’m especially looking for tips on local players at California junior colleges, as those rosters can be tough to find early in the season.
