LONDON — Four-year-old Princess Charlotte arrived for her first day of school on Thursday morning, clutching her mother’s hand and flicking her ponytail.

The princess arrived at the school alongside older brother, Prince George, and her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Prince George has been studying at the fee-paying school since 2017.

“First day — she’s very excited,” a smiling Prince William said as the family entered Thomas’ Battersea school in south London. Charlotte’s fees for the school year are expected to cost around 18,915 pounds (about $23,300 at today’s rates).

Charlotte is fourth in line to the British throne, behind her brother, George, her father, William, and her grandfather Prince Charles.

Kensington Palace’s official Twitter account shared footage of the family arriving at the school Thursday morning. The video of the two Cambridge children dressed in their uniforms and meeting teacher Helen Haslem has already been viewed a million times.
