How Clark County college football players fared, Aug. 31

By Micah Rice, Columbian Sports Editor
Published: September 2, 2019, 3:44pm

The college football season started in earnest over Labor Day weekend. There were a handful of players from Clark County who put in some serious work.

Tops among them was Jordan Suell (Fort Vancouver HS). The senior had a huge game in Southern Oregon’s 77-19 loss to Sacramento State on Saturday.

Suell had a team-high seven catches for 164 yards, including touchdown catches of 54 and 19 yards. That was the most receiving yards by a SOU receiver in the past two years.

Suell, who missed six games last season due to injury, now has six career 100-yard games.

Two other Clark County players made an impact for Southern Oregon, which is ranked No. 20 nationally in the NAIA. Nate Kuratli (Union HS) started at outside linebacker, making a team-high nine tackles and recovering a fumble. Parker Randle (Battle Ground HS) started at wide receiver and had two catches for 18 yards.

Among other notable performances — Kedrick Johnson (Hockinson HS) had nine tackles in Eastern Washington’s 47-14 loss at Washington. Jack Colletto (Camas HS) scored a rushing touchdown in Oregon State’s 52-36 loss to Oklahoma State. Isaiah Abdul (Camas HS) had an interception in College of Idaho’s 48-12 win over Eastern Oregon.

The first full week of college football happens next weekend as many of the Division-III colleges open their seasons.

As always, email updates to Sports Editor Micah Rice at micah.rice@columbian.com. I’m especially looking for tips on local players at California junior colleges, as those rosters can be tough to find early in the season.
