A Vancouver woman who worked as a nurse in Portland pleaded guilty Thursday to a federal drug-trafficking charge after crossing state lines with heroin.

Rene Elene Griffin Nunn, 60, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Oregon to conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute controlled substances, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Feb. 3.

In February 2018, Nunn drove from Vancouver to Portland with roughly 93 grams of heroin in her purse, prosecutors said. Nunn, a registered nurse at Adventist Medical Center in Portland at the time, was located and arrested while driving into Portland after an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and Clackamas County, Ore., Interagency Task Force.

“The indictment also alleges that between September 2017 and January 2018, Nunn communicated with others about the price and quantity of methamphetamine and heroin,” prosecutors said after Nunn’s first court appearance.

She faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a $1 million fine and three years of supervised release.
