Vancouver student to gift emergency preparedness kits for seniors

Pleasant Valley — Gabby Karber, a senior at Vancouver’s iTech Preparatory High School, is an Ambassador Girl Scout working on her Girl Scout Gold Award, for which she will provide emergency kits to 100 seniors in local independent living centers. She is co-chair and one of three student representatives from Washington on FEMA’s Region X Youth Preparedness Council, and is a certified Community Emergency Response Team member She received donations for the kits from local businesses and private donors, and had help in assembling the kits from other iTech students. She also plans on training the seniors on how to prepare for an emergency and is developing a “How to Prepare” video for to help educate the public.
