BRUSH PRAIRIE — A new student-group at Prairie High School called The Crimson Crew is working to shift the school’s culture to be more positive through various activities and acts of kindness. The group can be found cheering at school sporting events and performances and staying late to clean up afterward. They dole out high fives and candy in the hallways, and they gather handwritten messages of appreciation for teachers. They are also helping middle schools in Battle Ground Public Schools display anti-bullying messages. After last year’s successful Inspire Week, a more permanent student group returned and will support three Inspire Weeks throughout the 2019-2020 school year. “We have a phenomenal group of students, and I am so proud of how The Crimson Crew has taken off and is helping to give back and foster a positive atmosphere around campus,” Jason Castro, Prairie High School’s athletic director, said in a news release. The Crimson Crew evolved from an initiative that started in February, inspired by a popular national program called “Dude, Be Nice.” Teachers and staff at Prairie selected more than 100 students to come up with ideas for projects that could help improve school culture in a meaningful way.
