Online security company McAfee plans to lay off 107 employees at its Hillsboro, Ore., office, according to a letter it sent to state employment officials.
McAfee said in a written statement Tuesday that it’s investing in growing its operations but “must balance the needs of the business with those of our workforce.”
Previously owned by Intel, McAfee spun out as a separate business three years ago. Intel sold a majority stake in the company to TPG in exchange for $3.1 billion in cash and the chipmaker retained a minority stake.
McAfee laid off 200 employees companywide at the start of the year, according to the online technology news site The Information. The publication said at the time that private equity firm TPG, McAfee’s largest shareholder, wanted to boost profits.
