A house fire just east of the Vancouver city limits Thursday night displaced nine people.

Vancouver Fire Department crews were dispatched at 7:58 p.m. to the 16500 block of Northeast 29th Street for the report of a residential structural fire.

The first engine arrived at the address in about four minutes; its crew spotted an active fire in a second-floor bedroom, said fire department spokesman Bryan Fredrickson.

Crews had the fire extinguished within seven minutes, and it did not extend beyond the bedroom, but other areas of the home suffered smoke and heat damage, Fredrickson said.

The Red Cross is helping five children and four adults with temporary housing. No one was injured.

The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.
