Fire destroyed a cabin Saturday morning in rural Woodland.
A neighbor reported the fire at 10:01 a.m. at 3605 N.E. Cedar Creek Road, west of the Cedar Creek Grist Mill. Crews with Clark County Fire District 10 had trouble accessing the residence, which was located deep in the woods, said Capt. Galen Sarkinen. The first arriving fire engines couldn’t get down the narrow road to the cabin and had to back out. Brush trucks were sent instead.
“It wasn’t anywhere we could get our engines into,” Sarkinen said.
The fire had been burning for a while before someone called it in, so the cabin could not be salvaged. Nobody was home at the time, Sarkinen said. The Washington Department of Natural Resources was also sent to the fire as it spread to some trees. However, due to the recent wet conditions, Sarkinen said the fire was quickly contained.
“If it had been June or July it would have been a different story,” he said.
The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
