A Vancouver man was uninjured during a fatal crash Saturday afternoon in Umatilla County, Ore.

Oregon State Police and medical personnel responded to a two-vehicle crash around 2:18 p.m. at the interchange of Highway 395 and Interstate 84, according to an OSP news release. A preliminary investigation found that a Dodge pickup truck was traveling westbound on Interstate 84 and was, for unknown reasons, unable to complete a turn after taking an exit to northbound Highway 395.

The truck swerved into the southbound lanes before hitting the left rear side of a semi trailer, according to the release. The semi trailer’s driver was identified as Andrei Ceban, 30, of Vancouver.

The driver of the pickup — Lynn Dale Hiatt, 73, of Pasco — was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release. His wife — Remedios Hiatt, 76 — and another woman — Lucia Casey, 54, of Pasco — were also in the truck and taken by ambulance to Good Shepherd Medical Center.
