WASHOUGAL — Dalton Payne threw for six touchdowns as the Washougal Panthers exploded for four touchdowns in the first quarter en route to a 47-6 win over the Columbia River Chieftains in a 2A Greater St. Helens League matchup at Fishback Stadium.
“I think it was the lineman, I’ve got to give props to the linemen,” Payne said of the Panthers’ fast start. “I didn’t get sacked once. All week we worked hard in practice and brought that to the game….it was really fun today.”
Payne ended up throwing for 259 yards with three touchdowns to Brevan Bea and one each to Jakob Davis, Judson Mansfield and Julien Jones.
Peter Boylan added 167 yards on the ground for Washougal (3-3 overall, 2-1 2A GSHL).
Columbia River’s lone touchdown came on a fourth-down touchdown pass from Mason Purdy to Max Sturtevant which covered 26 yards.
