Vancouver-based Northwest Pipe Company has been selected to supply pipe for a section of the Navajo-Gallup Water Supply Project in New Mexico. Northwest Pipe announced the news in a press release on Thursday.
Northwest Pipe was selected by Oscar Renda Contracting. The water project is a joint effort between the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the Navajo Nation, intended to convey a municipal and industrial water supply from the San Juan River to portions of the Navajo Nation, Jicarilla Apache Nation and the city of Gallup. The areas are currently served by a receding groundwater supply.
Northwest Pipe was awarded the contract for a portion of the project called Reach 4C through Reach 8, which covers more than 28 miles in San Juan and McKinley counties in New Mexico. The company plans to manufacture more than 7,300 tons of spiral-welded steel pipe for the section.
In all, the project will include 280 miles of pipeline, two water treatment plants and several pumping stations.
