Battle Ground senior Steven Hancock ran for 362 yards and six touchdowns to lead the Tigers (2-4, 1-1) to a 41-35 victory over Heritage (2-4, 0-2) in 4A Greater St. Helens League game on Thursday at McKenzie Stadium.
Hancock carried the ball 54 times in the win, including all but two plays in the second half. The Tigers workhorse scored the winning touchdown on a 1-yard plunge in the fourth quarter.
“After the first half I was really disappointed in myself,” said Hancock, who lost two fumbles in the first two quarters. “My running back coach told me I needed to keep my feet going and wait for the holes to open. It just worked out for me.”
Isaac Roa had 163 yards rushing and two touchdowns and Anthony Kee had 126 yards rushing and two touchdowns for Heritage, which only had four possessions in the second half as Battle Ground bled the clock with runs from Hancock.
