Paddle for Life Dragon Boat Races raised $22,500 this year despite changes to the way the race is traditionally held.
Because Vancouver Lake had elevated cyanotoxin levels and was placed under a warning when the event was held in mid-July, race organizers decided to cancel the water, or dragon boat, portion. Instead, race organizers held a race/walk on land at Vancouver Lake Regional Park, rather than the dragon boat race.
The $22,500 will be donated to Clark County Veterans Assistance Center.
“We will use the money to help Southwest Washington and Oregon veterans with basic needs and extraordinary needs that most people take for granted,” the center’s Executive Director Judy Russell said in a press release. “We are so very appreciative.”
