How Clark County college football players fared, Oct. 5

By Micah Rice, Columbian Sports Editor
Published: October 6, 2019, 7:41pm

The numbers continue to add up for engineering whiz Keithen Shepard.

The junior from Union High caught two touchdowns for MIT on Saturday in the Engineers’ 35-29 overtime loss to Merchant Marine.

Shepard had a team-high seven catches for 115 yards, the longest coming on a 48-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Shepard’s 115 yards were the second-highest in any game in his career, behind only a 139-yard performance last season.

Shepard leads MIT (2-2) in catches (13), receiving yards (272) and touchdowns (6). He already has 12 career TD receptions, putting him in striking distance of the school career record of 18 (Robert Owsley, 1998-2001). MIT has played football since 1881.

More impressive than Shepard’s football achievements are his feats in the classroom. He’s majoring in computer science with a minor in economics. He has also worked as an intern for engineering firm Burns & McDonnell.

As always, email updates to Sports Editor Micah Rice at micah.rice@columbian.com. I’m especially looking for tips on local players at California junior colleges, as those rosters can be tough to find early in the season.
