Evergreen dropped 49 points on Bellingham in the second half en route to a 51-30 non-league victory Saturday night in Bellingham.
It took a half for them to wake up on offense after the Red Raiders led 9-2.
But in the end, five different Plainsmen scored rushing touchdowns and two different quarterbacks threw touchdowns to different targets. Both freshman Jonathan Landry and senior Carter Monda shared snaps Saturday as the two combined for 121 passing yards.
Evergreen rushed for 392 yards and was led by senior Zyell Griffin, who needed just six attempts to rush for 143 yards and a touchdown.
Two fumbles in the first half doomed promising Evergreen drives, but those were the only turnovers of the night by the Plainsmen. The lone points for Evergreen in the first half came on a safety by senior Kenny Munoz.
Evergreen wasn’t going to be kept out of the end zone all night and once they finally did score on a Monda 10-yard run, it sparked the Plainsmen defense.
With the score tied 16-16 with less than two minutes left in the third quarter, senior Derrick Webb intercepted Bellingham quarterback Morgan Cavalier deep in Red Raider territory.
One play later, Monda found senior Tae Marks on a 16-yard strike to give Evergreen its first lead with 54.1 left in the third. Bellingham’s next offensive play was also intercepted, this time by junior Jaylen Fite, and the Plainsmen carried that momentum to victory.
