CENTRAL PARK — Clark College hosted its 12th annual Elementary Science Olympiad Tournament — known as SciOly — on Nov. 16. About 270 students in third through fifth grade participated, including 18 teams from 14 schools and eight school districts. At competition, teams of students participated in five events “designed to excite, inspire, challenge and foster interest in science, engineering and math,” according to a news release. The events included categories studying electricity, evaluating stream water, making a package from recyclable paper, paper rockets, and meteorology. Districts and schools in Clark County that participated included Battle Ground Public Schools: CAM Academy, Daybreak Primary, Pleasant Valley Middle School and Tukes Valley Primary; Evergreen Public Schools: Image Elementary School; Hockinson School District: Hockinson Heights Elementary; La Center School District: La Center Elementary School; Ridgefield School District: South Ridge Elementary; Vancouver Public Schools: Eisenhower, Felida, Harney, and Walnut Grove elementary schools; and Washougal School District: Cape Horn-Skye Elementary School. Top-ranking teams included Eisenhower Elementary, Cape Horn-Skye, Hockinson Heights, Daybreak and CAM Academy.
