Ridgefield residents will once again spend this Thanksgiving season without a supermarket in town, but expect to see plenty of packed shopping carts leading up to the winter holidays.

The much-anticipated Rosauers Supermarket, 101 S. 47th Ave., has a ribbon-cutting scheduled for 9 a.m. Dec. 7. There will be grand opening celebrations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. both that day and Dec. 8.

The store — which is expected to have a deli, bakery and a pizza oven — joined forces with nearby ilani for an opening weekend tailgate featuring face painting, local businesses and food.

Rosauers is part of the Discovery Ridge property at 45th Avenue and Pioneer Street, and it will anchor a four-phase development plan for the site. The first phase will be made up of Rosauers and retail space, which will see a dental clinic, orthopedic clinic and brewhouse.

The second phase will include a Taco Bell and credit union, while the third phase will add a fuel station and drive-through espresso stand. That third phase is being developed by the Port of Ridgefield, which owned the land before selling it to the developer. The fourth phase hasn’t been planned yet, but could be primarily residential, with developers looking at condos, town homes or a community center.

The 52,000-plus-square-foot Rosauers and surrounding properties are being developed by FDM Development, which also oversaw improvements to Pioneer Street and Northwest Royle Road. The plan is to expand Pioneer into a four-lane road from South 35th Place to east of the new grocery store. Royle Road will also be widened due to the work.
