The Port of Longview Chief Executive Officer Norm Krehbiel will retire in February after nearly 30 years working with the organization, the port announced Thursday afternoon.

The three port commissioners will decide how to fill the vacancy at a future date, according to a news release.

Krehbiel joined port staff in 1993 as the director of facilities and engineering. In 2008 he was appointed deputy executive director. He also served as chief operating officer before being named CEO in 2016.

“I was recently asked what has kept me at the port all these years,” Krehbiel said to port staff in a meeting announcing his retirement, according to the release. “It’s you. It’s this team of people that has made my career so enjoyable.”

Under his leadership, the port completed initial construction of its Industrial Rail Corridor and cargo handling docks at berths 8 and 9. Krehbiel managed construction, maintenance and development on 800 acres of port property, the news release says.
