PLEASANT VALLEY — Teachers at Pleasant Valley Primary School recently started a video series published on YouTube.com, called “Bedtime Books with Buddy the Beaver,” after the school’s mascot. The goal is to have a teacher or administrator record a video of themselves reading a bedtime story. It’s then uploaded to YouTube and shared on the school’s Facebook page so parents and students can watch along from home. So far, Pleasant Valley Primary’s playlist — under the YouTube channel BGPSVideo — has published seven videos in the series. The most recent bedtime video uploaded features kindergarten teacher Marinel Wampach reading “Turkey Trouble.” Teacher Camille Ingram said she and co-worker Jessica Brown started it to help connect with families. “We hope that parents and children are watching them together,” she said. But they’re also to promote literacy and reading at home. “Hearing a fluent reader read a story is a great way for students to learn how to incorporate inflection and voice in their own reading,” Ingram said.
