Hazel Dell — The Hazel Dell Salmon Creek Business Association honored 15 students during the Annual Safety Poster Contest, a National Fire Safety Program the organization has been hosting the last 50 years. The organization holds it locally in collaboration with Clark County Fire District 6. Students from elementary schools throughout Vancouver Public Schools competed by coloring posters using the theme “Not every hero wears a cape. Plan and practice your escape.” Each student won gift cards and prizes, and each of the first-place schools won $100 for the art department. The grand prize winner won a $100 gift card, donated by Target in Hazel Dell, and the Sarah J. Anderson Elementary art department took home $200. The grand prize winner was Anderson third-grader Savannah Bennett. Honorable mentions went to Dominque Gonzalez, Samantha Vanta, Sara Katsanes, Sumi Dyment and Noelle Kyte.
