Union gave Lake Stevens a battle, but in the end, the Titans had no answer for Dallas Landeros.
The running back rushed for 276 yards on 41 carries and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead score in the third quarter as the Vikings avenged their loss to Union in last year’s state title game with 28-21 victory in the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs.
Lake Stevens jumped on Union 14-0 in the first quarter on a touchdown pass from Tanner Jellison to Sergion Pelayo, and Landeros’ 5-yard touchdown run.
But Alex Gehrmann had a 2-yard touchdown run and completed a 13-yard touchdown pass to Jake Bowen in the second quarter as the Titans trailed 21-14 at halftime.
A second Gehermann-to-Bowen touchdown pass — this one 14 yards — tied the score 21-21 in the third quarter.
But then Landeros added a 2-yard touchdown run to make 28-21.
The Vikings defense stopped two Union drives in the fourth quarter, then Landeros helped Lake Stevens run the clock out.
Gehrmann passed for 180 yards. Bowen remained his favorite target, catching seven passes for 100 yards.
