College Notebook: Tomasini rewarded for scoring knack

Alyssa Tomasini has been scoring in bunches for Western Oregon soccer.

The junior forward from Camas scored twice on Saturday in a 3-1 win over Central Washington. That came 10 days after Tomasini had two goals in a 3-1 win over Simon Fraser.

Tomasini’s performance, which helped Western Oregon enter the GNAC playoffs as the No. 3 seed, earned her conference player of the week honors.

Tomasini’s nine goals are the most in the NCAA Division-II Great Northwest Athletic Conference. She also ranks second with seven assists and has a conference-high four game-winning goals.

Cross County

Amelia Pullen, a freshman from Washougal, won the Cascade Collegiate Conference individual championship on Nov. 8 for Warner Pacific. Pullen covered the 5,000 meter course in Cottage Grove, Ore., in 17:35 to win by 12 seconds. She’ll next race at the NAIA National Championships on Nov. 22 in Vancouver.

Kyle Peterson, a junior from Hockinson, was the second-fastest University of Montana runner at the Big Sky Championships on Nov. 2 in Greeley, Colo. He finished 55th, covering the snow-covered 8,000 meter course in 29:18.

Volleyball

Evi Wilson, a senior from Columbia River, was named Big Sky player of the week for the second time this season. She led Montana State to its first Big Sky road sweep since 2011. She matched her season high with 19 kills against Eastern Washington, then followed up with 15 kills in a 3-0 win over Idaho.

Zoe McBride, a sophomore from Prairie, had a team-high 18 kills in Morgan State’s 3-0 win over Coppin State on Nov. 8. McBride has a team-high 475 kills for Morgan State (15-11), which has won seven straight.

Brooke Van Sickle, a junior from Battle Ground, had a combined 21 kills and 14 digs in wins over UC David and UC Riverside was No. 19 Hawaii improved to 22-3.

Page Heller, a senior from Columbia River, had 14 digs in Colorado State Pueblo’s 3-0 win over Fort Lewis on Saturday.
