Woodland — Students in Woodland Public Schools’ Lewis River Academy learn more about the subjects they study from special workshops featuring guest lecturers who specialize in using in-class material from their  professions. The academy serves Woodland Public Schools’ home-schooled students in grades K-8. The Wednesday Workshops are optional for students in the program, but they typically draw a majority of the enrolled students, as well as their families. Laura Perry manages the Nutrition Services staff for Woodland Public Schools and was a recent guest speaker to talk to students about the importance of good nutrition. Students selected from pictures of different fruits, vegetables, meats and dairy products to color, and they learned about different types of foods. They used the foods they picked out to create healthy meals. Perry brought in a wide selection of fresh and powdered herbs and spices for students to smell and explore.
