Portland police say a 10-year-old child was injured by a blade in Halloween candy obtained while trick-or-treating in Clark County.
Officers responded to Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel in Portland on Thursday for the report of an injured child.
“The child was reported to have bitten into a mini Hershey’s candy bar and injured her tongue on a small blade in the candy,” the Portland Police Bureau said in a news release.
The child’s injury was described as redness to the tongue; she was not cut by the blade, the news release said. The girl was treated and released from the hospital.
According to the parents, the family trick-or-treated around the 1900 block of Northeast 97th Street in Northeast Hazel Dell.
“This is a highly unusual case, and there is concern about other tainted candy existing or being ingested. Parents are cautioned to carefully inspect all candy and notify the police if any other tainted candy is located,” the police bureau said.
Anyone who collected candy in the same immediate area should take “extreme caution” before ingesting any candy, or consider discarding the candy, police said.
It is unclear exactly where the candy originated, and police have gathered no suspect information. Anyone who may have information about the incident should call the non-emergency Portland police dispatch at 503-823-3333 and provide the case number 19-384577.
