WASHOUGAL — Wendi Steinbronn will be Washougal’s next police chief, the city announced Wednesday.

Steinbronn is a 25-year veteran of the Portland Police Bureau, where she has served as the acting commander and commander of the north precinct since June 2018. She has 13 years of prior leadership experience in a variety of roles, including sergeant, lieutenant, acting captain and captain.

Steinbronn, who lives in Camas, will assume chief duties at the end of November when Chief Ron Mitchell retires. She will oversee a department of 25 employees, including 21 commissioned officers and a $4.2 million budget.

“Wendi has strong law enforcement credentials,” City Manager David Scott said in a news release from the city. “She impressed everyone involved in our selection process. As a Camas resident for some time, she is familiar with Washougal. I am confident Wendi has the right combination of experience and qualities that will make her a great fit for our community and a successful police chief.”
