Repair Clark County will fix tube-containing antiques

Columbia Springs’ popular Repair Clark County events will feature a new service: repairing antique radios and other older devices containing tubes.

At the last repair event, the Northwest Vintage Radio Society was kept busy testing, diagnosing issues and dispensing advice. The educational organization is dedicated to preserving and enjoying vintage radio.

“It was so successful, we’ve invited them back to our last event of the year,” Terra Heilman, the Repair Clark County coordinator, said in a news release. Repairing these antiques means resources “won’t be trashed, and we had a part in preserving the history and story of the piece.”

“Our goal is to get the radio up and running again, but if the problem is not solved during the event, we will refer you to a qualified radio technician,” Pat Kagi, president of the radio society, said in the news release.

Repair Clark County is a traveling event offering free fixing events, repair skills workshops and other waste reduction efforts. It’s an offshoot of Columbia Springs, a 100-acre natural area in Vancouver dedicated to outdoor recreation and science education.

The program has nearly 180 volunteers and serves about 100 community members at each monthly event.

The next Repair Clark County is noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 16 at Camas Public Library, 625 N.E. Fourth Ave. People can bring knives or other blades to be sharpened, sewing projects, broken jewelry, bicycles appliances and electronics. Volunteers will attempt to repair items during the two-hour event.
