As every football season progresses, players can grow into more advanced roles.
Signs of that were shown by a few players from Clark County on Saturday.
In Eastern Washington’s 66-38 win over Northern Arizona, Kendrick Johnson got his first start of the season at the rover position in the defensive backfield. After starting three games at that position last season, the redshirt junior from Hockinson looked at home. He made eight tackles, including three solo, one-half tackle for loss, one pass broken up and one quarterback hit.
At Hawaii, the Rainbow Warriors have been looking for more ways to get dynamic true freshman Lincoln Victor into the offense. On Saturday, the Union grad was the main kickoff returner in a 41-38 loss to Fresno State. Victor returned five kickoffs for a total of 116 yards, including a long of 31. He also had one catch for 5 yards.
For Pacific Lutheran, Liam Nabors saw his most significant action at quarterback. The junior from King’s Way Christian gave the struggling Lutes offense a spark, directing a touchdown drive in the fourth quarter of a 31-6 loss to Whitworth. Nabors completed 5 of 6 passes for 45 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown pass, the first of his career. Nabors also handles place-holding duties for the Lutes.
