HOCKINSON — Hockinson clinched its sixth consecutive league title with a 47-25 victory over Ridgefield Friday night.

Levi Crum contributed six total touchdowns including three rushing and three passing scores to lead the Hawks. Liam Mallory was on the receiving end of two of the touchdowns while Makaio Juarez found the other.

Crum completed 25 passes to go along with 371 yards passing. He also led the team with 126 yards on the ground.

“Our coaches put us in the right position to succeed and the rest was up to us to make good plays,” Crum said. “A lot of things we need to tune up but overall pretty efficient day.”

Despite continuing the Hawks’ run of dominance, both Mallory and Crum knew the team was far from perfect:

“Stats are just stats, there were a couple plays that they ended up scoring on that were my fault,” Mallory said. “Our goal is further than league champs. It’s nice to win this game but we need to clean some things up.”

“Our kids just battle every night,” head coach Rick Steele said. “We’ll celebrate the league title but we’re already looking passed that, we’re looking to win some playoff games.”

With Hockinson down several key contributors like Peyton Brammer and Sawyer Racanelli, the coaching staff has had to get creative and dip into the depth chart.

“We need to continue to refine this offense,” Steele said. “We’re looking for ways to make our offense more potent.”

Certainly a scary notion for a team that finished the evening with over 660 total yards of offense.

While the team was disappointed in the overall defensive outcome, Hockinson still forced two interceptions and recovered a Spudder fumble. The team allowed just 26 passing yards and less than 40 rushing yards in the first half.

Ridgefield quarterback Luke Price threw for three touchdowns to three different receivers. Hunter Abrams found his stride in the second half and finished with 164 yards rushing with a touchdown.

“There’s a lot of things we can do better but that’s what the next week of preparation is for,” Crum said. “It’s good to continue the legacy,” Mallory chipped in.

On the kickoff to start the third quarter, Ridgefield’s Aidan Hundt suffered an injury that required his leg to be immobilized and Hundt left the field on a stretcher after being attended to by paramedics. The game was delayed about 45 minutes.
