A tire that came loose from an SUV traveling on Interstate 5 struck two cars Monday afternoon on both sides of the freeway.

The incident took place around 12:30 p.m. near the Clark County Fairgrounds, according to a Washington State Patrol press memo. No one was taken to the hospital, and no citations were issued.

Clay Lewis, 25, of Newport, Ore., was driving south on the freeway in a tan 2008 Toyota RAV4 when a tire came loose, according to the memo. The tire crossed the median and struck a white 2004 Dodge Ram traveling north. It then bounced back to the southbound side and struck a 2009 Chevrolet pickup on the driver’s side windshield, causing minor injuries to the driver, identified as Ted Erickson, 64, of La Center.

Emergency crews were on scene for about 20 minutes. The Toyota and Chevrolet were towed from the scene, the memo said.
