Mountain View students show off math skills

EAST VANCOUVER — Students at Mountain View High School demonstrated their math abilities in two competitions recently. They placed 19th at the Ciphering Time Trials and 11th in the Four-by-Four competition, both administered by National Assessment and Testing in Seattle but participated in via email. Coach Mechelle Griffin prepared students for the contests, each featuring 10 three-minute rounds of questions. In the Ciphering Time Trials, Fahmid Rahman placed sixth in the 10th-grade division, and Lu Abuizzah placed 16th in the 10th-grade division. In the Four-by-Four Competition, the team of Justin Xue, Nathaniel John, Lu Abuizzah, and Peter Kilway placed fourth in the youngest division.
