WASHOUGAL — Students at Hathaway Elementary School collected $2,537 in their second year of raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Pennies for Patients campaign. Students brought in change; their parents and relatives also donated online. The campaign began with a kickoff assembly on March 1 with videos at school about scientists, students and researchers working toward finding a cure. Forty-seven students in the kindergarten class and their teachers were awarded a pasta lunch at Olive Garden for raising the most money. First- and fourth-graders had a root beer float and ice cream party for placing second and third. “We can’t wait to participate again next year,” Principal Sarika Mosley said in a news release. “This is one more way we are making a difference in the world.”
