1. Alpacalypse now

Alpacas will rule from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 18 and 19, during the Sheared Delights Alpaca Fiber Festival at White Oak Alpacas, 39908 N.E. 12th Ave., Woodland. Alpacas’ fluffy fleece — softer and warmer than wool — will take center stage, with roving, yarns and alpaca fiber clothing for sale in the Alpaca Boutique and spinning and knitting demonstrations. Meet the alpacas who produce such valuable fiber, see fleeces being skirted and learn how fleece becomes a finished product. Admission is free and supervised children are welcome (no dogs, please). 360-263-7214 or www.WhiteOakAlpacas.com

2. Can you dig it?

If you’re a kid who loves bulldozers, dump trucks and digging for treasure, Dozer Day is your time to shine. Held the third weekend in May (this year, May 18 and 19 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days), this massive event at the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds, 17402 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield, pairs kids with experienced operators to control all kinds of earth-moving machines — plus there’s loads of kids activities, music and food. All rides except for a few are covered by admission and all kids get free hard hats. Tickets are $8 to $13; kids under 2 are free. Parking is $6 cash. 360-608-6746 or Vancouver.DozerDay.org

3. Spell-bound

Journey Theater Arts presents “Godspell” May 17 through 26 at Washburn Performing Arts Center at Washougal High School, 1201 39th St., Washougal. “Godspell” mesmerized audiences from the moment it hit the stage in 1971, with its re-imagining of Jesus’ parables and the people who helped him spread the word through music. Journey’s production features the familiar line-up of beloved songs, including “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord,” “Learn Your Lessons Well,” “All for the Best,” “All Good Gifts” and “By My Side.” Showtimes are at 7 p.m. or 2 p.m., and tickets range from $10 to $16. journeytheater.org

4. Weddings and wine

If you’re planning on getting married this year, Heisen House Vineyards offers a picturesque venue in the green fields northeast of Battle Ground at 28005 N.E. 172nd Ave. At the Wedding Showcase and Open House from noon to 5 p.m. May 19, you can see three Instagram-worthy ceremony locations styled by the area’s top wedding talent, browse among more than 30 wedding vendors offering samples and information, get a peek at the bridal suite, take a tour of the historic property, and enjoy wine tasting and hard cider sampling. Admission and parking are free. www.heisenhouseweddings.com

5. March to a different beat

Do you love a parade? Then you won’t want to miss the Hazel Dell Parade of Bands on May 18, one of the Northwest’s largest and most popular parades, showcasing between 25 to 30 bands and between 100-150 total entries, including floats, cars and horses. For 2019, the theme is “Generations of Music… Celebrating 55 Years.” The parade kicks off at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Clark County Fire District 6, Station 1, near the 8800 block of Northeast Hazel Dell Avenue (across from Target). The end time varies based on the number of entries, but usually the parade wraps up at about 1:30 p.m. hazeldellparade.com
