As long as no rain is in our forecast for the foreseeable future, let’s review rainfall from April.

Claudia Chiasson, Carson, 8.73 inches; Rob Starr, Cougar, 9.38 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lake Shore, 3.54 inches; Tyler Mode, Battle Ground, 5.04 inches; Judy Darke, Felida, 5.34 inches; Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 3 inches; Bob Mode, Minnehaha, 3.49 inches; Jim Knoll, Five Corners, 4.40 inches; Matt Sloan, McLoughlin Heights, 3.29 inches; Murphy Dennis, Rawson Road near Clark Rifles, 7.21 inches; Dave Campbell, one mile west of Heisson, 4.74 inches; Chuck Houghten, Hockinson Heights, 5.71 inches; and Bill Sobolewski, Livingston Mountain, 7.04 inches. Our friend Roland Dersken in Vancouver, B.C., had 4.74 inches. In comparison, the rainfall for Vancouver USA was 3 inches, right on average for April.

Dave Campbell had this to sum up last month, “April showers equals lawn mowers and weed choppers. Yard work begins. No more lying back and having that third cup of coffee before lunch and that afternoon nap.”

In May 2018 we had only .14 of an inch of rain in Vancouver. Could we repeat that this year? We are certainly on the right track although some weather models show a chance of showers about the middle of next week.

With hot dry east winds today and Friday with low humidity and temperatures near 90 degrees, a red flag warning was issued for high wildfire danger. Ground conditions out in the forests are similar to mid-July not mid-May.
