Firefighters competed against dry winds when working to extinguish a blaze Thursday afternoon at a house in Hazel Dell.

Clark County Fire District 6 crews were dispatched around 2:30 p.m. to the 6900 block of Northeast 17th Avenue for a report of a residential structure fire.

Multiple fire engines responded; the initial crew to arrive found a single-family home engulfed in flames, with fire concentrated at the back of the house, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.

Firefighters stretched a waterline and doused the flames from the home’s exterior, according to the scanner traffic.

The firefighters “fought not only a fully-involved blaze but worked to keep it from spreading, as it was pushed by constant dry winds,” the fire district said in a Facebook post.

The majority of the fire was extinguished in about 10 minutes. Vancouver firefighters helped during the response.

No one was injured. The residents weren’t home when the fire started, according to the fire district.
