The motorcyclist who was critically injured after colliding with an SUV on Saturday in Battle Ground has been identified.

Steven Lenz, 33, of Vancouver, was riding a 2015 Harley Davidson FX Dyna Street Bob motorcycle just before 7 p.m. in the 27400 block of Northeast 182nd Avenue, according to a sheriff’s office news release. Witnesses said a northbound 2016 Toyota Highlander turned left into the path of the southbound motorcycle, the sheriff’s office said.

Sheriff’s deputies and personnel with Clark County Fire District 3 responded and performed CPR on Lenz, according to the sheriff’s office. Lenz was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries. The press release didn’t provide an update on Lenz’s condition.

The driver of the Toyota was identified as Johnny W. Merriman, 73, of Battle Ground. Merriman has been cooperative in the investigation, and impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.

Merriman and a passenger sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

The paved, rural road where the crash occurred has two lanes and is straight with slight rises and dips. The speed limit is 50 mph.
